The Bookmarks Awards, held last Thursday night, in the City of Gold, position themselves on an international level awarding only the finest work in each respective category. No Grand Prix was awarded, not even a single Gold Pixel. Adrian Hewlett, the OPA Chairman, stated “this is a truly global discipline and we have to be benchmarked internationally.”
Three of Hellocomputer’s submissions were nominated for awards, namely; Monster Trucks, Feed your Ego and Young, Gifted & Black.
HelloComputer received a Silver Pixel in the Digital Marketing Microsite category for client The Loerie Awards. The microsite ‘Feed your Ego’ had also recently won the UK’s coveted FWA (Favourite Web Awards.) It allows users to customize a representation of their ego and challenge friends and colleagues to a battle for ego supremacy, while simultaneously marketing the upcoming event.
HelloComputer assisted Quirk with their celebrated Harry Potter “Cast a Spell” campaign and creative work utilizing the micro-blogging phenomenon, Twitter.
Chris Colborn of R/GA New York represented part of the international judging panel and observed that both concepts and skills are very strong in SA. However, it is the lack of budget that is undermining both the craft in execution and also the successful seeding of these sites through adequate media placement. He challenged advertisers to spend 1 in every 4 marketing rands in digital media and hoped to see the first 1 million dollar project released in the industry.
